The invoicing that keeps its own books
Write an invoice, know what it is owed, and match the money against it when it arrives. Instead of a spreadsheet, a folder of documents and a quarterly panic.
What it does
Issue invoices
Build a document from its lines and issue it. Once issued it is a record: its number, its amounts and its dates are fixed, and a mistake is answered by a reversal rather than by an edit nobody can see.
Know who owes what
What is outstanding, what is late, what came in this month — per currency, and never added across them. The question the whole product exists to answer at a glance.
Record what arrives
Bank accounts and the movements on them, written down as they happen. Balances follow from what moved rather than being kept as a number somebody has to maintain.
Match the two
Say which invoice a payment settles — including the awkward ones: half of an invoice, one transfer covering three of them, a bank charge that is not income at all.
Keep the client list
Names, addresses, contact details, and whatever identifiers a client needs printed on their invoices. Written as they are written where the client is.
How it goes
1
Say who you are
Your name, where you are, and what you are paid in. It takes a minute and it is asked once.
2
Invoice somebody
Add the client, write the lines, issue the document. The number follows the last one you used.
3
Match the money
Write down what arrived in the account and say what it paid for. What is owed, what is late and what you collected answer themselves from there.
What it does not do
Said plainly, because finding out later is worse.
- It does not file anything with anybody. It produces documents and keeps the record behind them; what you do with them is between you and whoever asks.
- It does not connect to a bank. Accounts and movements are written down by hand, which works everywhere and on the first day — and stays available when a connection is added later.
- It does not know your local rules. What an invoice says about your tax position is your own sentence, printed as you wrote it.
- It does not send the invoice for you yet. That, and the file it would attach, are what is being built now.
